May 2010

On the 31st of march 2010 De Fabriek has reached the respectable age of 30 years. De Fabriek is a place with an amazing history where artists give other artists a chance to create and exhibit new work. 10 artists (including me) will create a new work using 30 years of history as a starting point. The opening of the exhibition and the presentation of a new book about De Fabriek will take place during a 30-hours-party (!!) on the 29th of May.

NL-RUHR: GastGastgeber

During RUHR.2010 European Capital of Culture the water tower of the railway station of Oberhausen will be transformed into a guest office / guesthouse by Studio Makkink & Bey. For every room they chose an artist to exhibit permanently and a guest artist to respond by making a new piece during his/her stay at the hotel. I'm very glad they've asked me to respond with my Story Signs on the work of Ester vd Wiel and on NL-RUHR! This gives me the opportunity to develop the idea of 'story networks', mixing physical and non-physical networks, connecting global and local identities. I think the temporary railway station hotel / office generates a perfect context.

Official opening of Buurtbank Brabant, a database of video-stories about objects in tiny museums, told by the guides of the museums in the local dialects. Most guides of these (crafts) museums have been working themselves with these objects in the past. Together with Marcia Nolte I designed the physical Buurtbank; a hybrid between a table and an archive. It makes the museums able to display the videos together with the objects, and also record the videos themselves.
